We had the opportunity to support 25 families in Lunuvila, a rural community where many work in a coconut factory. The recent floods severely affected the area, forcing families to leave their homes and seek temporary shelters.
As we visited them, the reality of their situation was heartbreaking. In the photos, you can see school students trying to dry their soaked books and bags, hoping to salvage whatever they can for their studies. The floodwaters swept through their homes with such force that many lost almost all their essential belongings.
Some of these same families have been living inside a lorry body and cooking and eating in an open garage for the past few days. Their routines, comfort, and dignity have all been disrupted. The destruction is heavy, and the journey to rebuild will take time.
Yet, even in the midst of difficulty, there is resilience.
We are grateful that we had the chance to visit them, spend time with them, and hand over dry-ration packs to help meet their immediate needs. It was a small act of love, but one that brought encouragement and relief to these families who are trying to start again.
Moments like these remind us of the importance of standing with communities during their time of crisis.
We continue to pray and believe for full restoration for the people of Lunuvila.
