Youth ministry is one of the most challenging ministries in the church. It is also one of the most heartbreaking ministries to be involved in. But the joy in seeing your youth succeed surpasses all the heartbreak.

Now our knowledge is partial and incomplete, and even the gift of prophecy reveals only part of the whole picture! 1 Corinthians 13:9 . About 46% of young workers below the age of 45 years consider quitting full-time ministry. But are we called to quit and give up or are we called to fight the good fight?

“ I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. 8 And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing. 2 Tim 4:7-8”

Most of the time we fix youth ministry to a box and not let ourselves out of the box and limit ourselves in that box because it is so comfortable. But I believe this is a time that God is asking us to step out of our comfortable box and move to an uncomfortable and unfamiliar place.

 Two steps to move your youth ministry from the small picture to the big picture is 

1. Move your youth from a membership mindset to an ownership mindset.
2. Move your youth from a follower mindset to a sonship mindset. 

Membership to Ownership

Members will come and go – owners will stay on 

Members will only make use of – owners will want to make it better 

Members will find fault – owners will find solutions 

Members will not take a risk – owners will risk everything 

Members will not make it their house – owners will make it their home 

Followers to Sons / Daughters

Followers will come after you – sons will come along with you 

Followers will follow for the benefit – sons will come because of love 

Followers will serve out of duty – sons will serve it their own 

Followers will only follow – sons will go ahead of you 

Followers will not reproduce – sons will reproduce

 Don’t get discouraged with God and ministry if you do not make these mindset shifts in your ministry. Satan wants you to be stuck in your small mindset and defeated mindset, but the Father wants to set you free so you can see the bigger picture and fulfill your potential. Doing these mindset shifts is not easy but it is necessary, it is going to be challenging but we still need to do it. Remember that God is on your side. And the best place to start this mindset shift is with you. If you believe it, you will live it, if you live it your youth will catch it.
